The focus of this project explored the imaginary space of the miniature through Architectural model making.

The work explores how the fusion of textiles and geometry within architecture transforms the aesthetic and structural elements of the design, and are therefore central in affecting and contributing to the experience of space.

Knitting, Weaving and Macramé are strong, supportive yet flexible techniques that can be altered and applied in a variety of ways. Through model making, I was able to push the boundaries of traditional design practices by fusing these distinctly separate areas together.

The aim is for the Architectural models to be perceived as ‘prototype representations’, where the viewer imagines them-self as the figure beneath the hypothetically towering structures, creating an interaction between materiality, body and space. While observing the models the viewer’s experience of space is integral, where presence, perception and body movement become part of the work.
